The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) is a well-recognized organization comprised of students from various academic backgrounds and campus-community involvements at the University of Utah. SHAC was founded with the mission of promoting health education and disease prevention on campus, developing and implementing health programs that represent student health interests, improving the well-being of students, and creating an interdisciplinary service learning environment for members.
SHAC works in cooperation with many other organizations and departments on campus to promote health and wellness. Contributions to the promotion of health awareness on campus include quality programming, informal dialogue, and participation of nationally recognized health campaigns. Many of SHAC's campaigns are entirely conceived, organized, and promoted by members, which includes opportunities to write grants and proposals to gain funding for projects. In addition to SHAC's activities during the school year, SHAC members also attend and present at the annual American College Health Association (ACHA) conference in the spring.
Typical SHAC-sponsored health issues include HIV / STDs, sexual health, nutrition, physical fitness, stress relief, depression, and more!
